Recorded live at Blue Note Tokyo, Japan on March 16th to March 19th, 2005. Mastered at Battery Studios, NY.

„This latest one, poetically titled as Tokyo Adagio, is more recent, Haden duetting with the Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba and draws from a March 2005 Blue Note Tokyo club four-night residency. The polite audience reaction and applause is respectful and the sound of a few knives and forks neither here nor there in the background not distracting: the album feels lived in, which is far better than clinical.

Carmen McRae’s debut was recorded in 1954, the same year she was awarded the title Best New Female Vocalist by DownBeat magazine. Accompanied by an all-star line up of musicians including Herbie Mann on flute and tenor saxophone, Wendell Marshall on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums, this auspicious debut set up the rest of McRae’s successful career which would see her record more than 60 albums, garner multiple Grammy nominations and appear in films and on television.

Recorded Live At The Jazz Club Dug, Tokyo, November 21, 1973

It may have made Bogart and Bergman immortal, but the song “As Time Goes By” curiously never became one of the many jazz standards of the day. So, to find it here in the company of other perennial songs from the jazz catalog is quite a treat. And even more impressive is the fact Carmen McRae is the one at the microphone. Recorded in 1973 at Tokyo’s Dug jazz club, As Time Goes By finds McRae accompanying herself on piano. And if one wasn’t quite sure whether to put Miss McRae in the same company as a Sarah Vaughan or Dinah Washington, then this collection of numbers should definitely tip the scales. Here is one of jazz’s most underrated chanteuses spelling it all out. ~ Stephen Cook, All Music Guide Review

Little Blue is a collection of songs that I feel strongly about. Songs of my youth that made an lingering impression and original compositions, some written a long time ago; some only recently.
They all deal with topics of everyday life that keeps my mind occupied: the choices we make, how we define ourselves and how we deal with life in general.

Originally released in 1983, „Hello Big Man“ was Carly Simon’s final album for Warner Brothers Records. Following 1981’s well-reviewed but commercially lackluster collection of jazz and pop standards „Torch“, „Hello Big Man“ was another unexpected stylistic detour, featuring Simon recording with the pioneering reggae rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. While the resulting music bears an obvious reggae influence (most particularly on a cover of Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love?’), the overall effect has more in common with slightly younger and more stylistically experimental singer-songwriters such as Joan Armatrading and Rickie Lee Jones. Unfortunately, for all their quirky charms, the album and its single, ‘You Know What To Do,’ were both commercial failures. The budget-line reissue from Rhino Flashback features remastered sound.

This album featuring Carolyn Sampson and Ex Cathedra showcases works written for the foremost soprano of the French Baroque, Marie Fel. Voltaire called her his “adorable nightingale”. Fel held an entire generation spellbound at the Paris Opera and at Louis XV’s court during one of the most glorious periods of French music. She inspired some of Rameau’s finest music and introduced a whole new level of virtuosity and expression into the French singing tradition. Her long, triumphant career is traced through this fascinating recording.
